Global Health Connections

Global Health Connections, Inc. (GHC) is an educational outreach 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that started in 2003 to connect global health enthusiasts in Colorado and nations around the world to engage in international fellowship and multicultural solutions to global health issues. Our mission is to provide opportunities for individuals to connect, engage, and solve global health issues.

Engineers Without Borders

Engineers Without Borders-USA was founded in Colorado in 2000. EWB-USA’s engineers and engineering students form partnerships with developing communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America. As a result, these communities gain technical, managerial and entrepreneurial skills, enabling them to own and operate sustainable systems without external assistance.

Elephant Energy

Elephant Energy is a Colorado-based non-profit organization that works to improve the quality of life in developing communities by pioneering ventures that provide access to appropriate sustainable energy technologies. EE uses the power of markets to meet the energy needs of people living without electricity in Namibia and on the Navajo Nation in the Four Corners Region of the United States.

El Porvenir

El Porvenir partners with people in rural Nicaraguan communities to improve their standard of living through sustainable self-help water, sanitation, and reforestation projects. For 21 years, El Porvenir has been using appropriate technology and providing communities with the tools they need to manage their water, sanitation, and forestry resources.

Educate

Educate! provides a proven mix of a social entrepreneurship and leadership course, long term mentoring, and an alumni program that helps high school students start enterprises.

Edge of Seven

Founded in 2010, Edge of Seven generates awareness and volunteer support for projects that invest in education, health and economic opportunity for girls in the developing world. Through partnerships with local NGOs, Edge of Seven specifically supports initiatives that are locally driven and community focused.

Bridges to Prosperity

Bridges to Prosperity provides access to health care, education and markets by teaching communities how to build footbridges over impassable rivers, in partnership with organizations, sponsors and professionals. The only organization that solely focuses on this aspect of rural infrastructure development, we prove the value of our work through a commitment to the community and its bridge that lasts long after the opening celebration.

Aftrica School Assistance Project

Founded in 2008 in Denver, CO, the Africa School Assistance Project builds schools in rural East African villages and each summer leads groups of American volunteers to work on our school projects. Our projects must meet rigorous standards for sustainability and we only approve projects deemed appropriate and ethical for local culture. So far, we have provided schools to 800+ students with the help of 75 volunteers.

AfricAid

AfricAid is a nonprofit organization that has been supporting girls’ education in Africa for over 10 years in order to provide young women with the opportunity to transform their own lives and the futures of their communities. To date, AfricAid has raised over $1,000,000 and served over 40,000 Tanzanian students.

Adelante Foundation

The Adelante Foundation, a self-sustaining microfinance institution, works to improve the standard of living for extremely poor women living in rural Honduras by granting short-term micro-loans used to establish and grow small businesses. The Adelante Foundation has empowered over 6,500 women in rural Honduras, creating a lasting impact not only on individual women but their entire families and villages.

The Greenhouse Project is a joint venture of 15 Colorado-based organizations, committed to creating the nation’s first collaborative center for international development. Our goal: to produce more innovative, effective, and sustainable solutions to global poverty.

Our Premise

Colorado is home to more than 100 international development organizations. Our work encompasses agriculture, education, health, infrastructure, microfinance, sanitation, and technology, among other fields. Many of us confront similar administrative burdens and financial challenges, serve similar populations, and advance similar missions, yet most operate in relative isolation from one another.

Bringing these enterprises together will enable us to cut costs, exchange ideas, and improve the products and services we deliver. Collaboration will spur innovation, boost distribution, and generate new, sustainable ventures. That’s the premise behind the Greenhouse Project.

Our Plan

The Greenhouse will form a common headquarters for organizations that serve the world’s poorest people. Participants will share a wide range of resources, from field trials and demonstrations to teleconference facilities and technical support.

The facility will host lectures, workshops, other educational programs and community events. The Greenhouse will also function as the focal point of a virtual network, bringing together Coloradans who share a desire to eradicate extreme poverty. The Greenhouse aims to become a top destination for talented leaders and entrepreneurs – the hub of international development activity in Colorado and a broader region.
